In the beginning the idea was to bring together musicians of different backgrounds, countries and cultures and to create original work with diverse new music. Carlos and Maria had written many songs when they met Trish, a jazz singer, who spent many years amongst the music artists in L.A. She joined the project and her voice can be heard on some of the songs.
Fernando Lopez Gallego, Carlos's brother, is a professional musician living in Spain. He is a member of the band 'Kome y Kalla'. Fernando joined the project and more themes began to develop. So, despite some initial difficulties, CD4 started to take shape.

Later Kevin Allwood, founder member of Christian band 'Outcry', and writer of songs 'Set me Free' and 'Rest in Peace' joined CD4 as guitarist/co- arranger.

Lisa Bland, her voice filled with gospel character, and Bassist John Hurst soon agreed to join the project. Finally they were introduced to Vincent, a skilled Dutch saxophonist and he became the last addition to CD4.

The project was completed in Sheffield in 2005, after some difficulties and disappointment, it is supported by Shield South Yorkshire; a support group for people affected by HIV.
CD4 originally began as a project to make distinct, diverse and original music, it has now grown to include a message that aims to increase society awareness to situations that must change.
